Lila is a cheerful and positive thinking person.
“Initially, I got interested in biology in high school when genetic heredity was taught. Since then, this field of science has moved on tremendously, which has further fueled my interest in health and wellbeing research”, she recalls looking back.
”The most important thing for me has always been the possibility to be involved in a wide variety of projects, and those which aim for the development of novel and better therapies and treatment practices for patients.”
Lila has had a long career in scientific research and R&D in Finland. She earned her PhD from Åbo Akademi university, studying multilevel regulation of stress gene expression in cancer cells. “The most important thing for me has always been the possibility to be involved in a wide variety of projects, and those which aim for the development of novel and better therapies and treatment practices for patients”, she sums.
Before joining MedEngine, Lila worked as the Director of Auria Biobank, the leading Finnish hospital biobank owned by the University of Turku and the hospital districts of Southwest Finland, Satakunta, and Vaasa. In addition, she has previously worked in preclinical R&D in the pharmaceutical industry and in business development at the Finnish state-owned research institute VTT.

Lila’s family includes a husband, two teenagers and an active German Shephard, which keeps the family busy. She likes all outdoor activities and walking in the woods with the dog or hitting the gym and the group exercise classes there. “I also look forward to traveling whenever it might be possible again!”, she sums.
