From fostering a culture of collaboration and growth to navigating the evolving demands of expertise and sustainability, we delve into the journey of Disa Långström, whose nearly decade-long tenure at MedEngine highlights the profound impact of a people-first approach.
Disa has been with MedEngine nearly from the beginning. She’s seen the company grow from a team of six at her start into a thriving Nordic company, and she’s played no small role in that journey. Nearly a decade in, she remains driven by one core motivation: the people.
“In my role in HR, I strive to keep our core values at the heart of everything we do. HR is not just about finding talent; it’s about understanding our core business, knowing our clients, and identifying the right people who will drive our mission forward. My work involves ongoing engagement with our teams—from understanding the financial dynamics behind our decisions to fostering an environment where employees truly thrive.”
“Expertise is about attitude: the professional skill to learn, apply new knowledge, and adapt to change.“
In today’s world of expert professionals, success requires not only in-depth expertise but also the ability to build meaningful connections. “Understanding our clients and their needs is essential and requires a genuine interest in the dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry,” Disa says, and continues, “Experts have a strong need to learn, grow, and understand how their role fits into the bigger picture. Sharing knowledge is vital, as it allows us to leverage diverse insights across teams and strengthen our competencies. At MedEngine, we foster a culture where knowledge sharing and mutual learning are integral. In an organization like ours, expertise also means being comfortable with uncertainty. We work across multiple therapeutic areas and project types, often venturing into new or unfamiliar fields. Embracing this uncertainty is part of what drives innovation and growth within our team. Most importantly, expertise here is about attitude: the professional skill to learn, apply new knowledge, and adapt to change. And there’s no better way to do this than alongside like-minded professionals,” Disa concludes thoughtfully.
“I see it as my responsibility to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.”
MedEngine is committed to a sustainable future. “For HR, sustainability means social responsibility: fostering an environment built on equality, inclusivity, and genuine support. We aim to create a workspace that reflects our values—reliability, making an impact, and driving growth. This extends to ensuring flexible working conditions, health and well-being resources, and regular check-ins supporting professional development and personal well-being,” Disa shares as she reflects on her many responsibilities.
She adds with a smile, “I’m not one to elevate myself, but I’m grateful for the feedback I’ve received about being approachable and bringing positive energy to my work. I see it as my responsibility to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. HR is a delicate balance—maintaining professionalism while bringing empathy to the table, all while keeping our business goals in focus. It’s this balance that makes HR both challenging and incredibly fulfilling.”
As MedEngine continues its journey, Disa’s commitment to our teams remains a guiding force. Here’s to building connections and creating a place where we can thrive together—it’s wonderful to have you leading the way, Disa!
