We believe one of the best ways to show who we are is by sharing the stories of our people. This time, we’re happy to introduce Tiia Luukkonen, whose positive spirit and determination have made her a valued colleague and teammate. Tiia works as a Scientific Consultant in MedEngine’s Scientific Content & Digital Engagement team.
Tiia describes herself as someone whose glass is always half full. She balances determination and structure with a caring, sensitive nature. She laughs when recalling how her best friend’s little sister, just learning to talk, once called her “beautiful but bossy” — “She wasn’t entirely wrong,” Tiia admits with a grin.
Those close to her often highlight her warmth, reliability, and positivity. “Tiia is a cheerful and dependable person who keeps our family grounded and in good spirits. She’s thoughtful toward everyone and fully present in everything she does,” comments her partner.

Tiia’s path to MedEngine has always been guided by curiosity, with science as her compass. Inspired by great teachers, she became interested in biology from an early age, but first enrolled in the teacher education program at the University of Turku. Before long, her passion for biology drew her to the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and later to PhD studies in genetics at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), University of Helsinki. Alongside her research, she taught genetics to master’s students — honing her ability to explain complex topics — and even explored business and marketing studies at Aalto University. These combined skills have proven invaluable in the pharmaceutical field.
Before joining MedEngine, Tiia worked as a content manager specializing in next-generation sequencing (NGS) genetic testing. She managed everything from scientific posters to webinars and marketing materials, while building collaborative workflows that connected researchers, clinicians, and industry experts. “I’ve always loved roles where I can combine science, communication, and collaboration,” she says.

Tiia first got to know MedEngine as a client, and the collaboration left a lasting impression. “The pleasant collaboration and the wonderful, inspiring people made a strong impression on me,” she recalls. That familiarity made the transition to MedEngine seamless. Now, she works closely with clients on medical affairs and scientific content solutions. She has also worked as a contractor for MedEngine clients, gaining fascinating insights into the pharma industry’s dynamics. For Tiia, the reward is in clarity and impact: “It’s fulfilling when you manage to deliver clear and meaningful solutions, such that bring true value and impact to the client. At the end of the day, we play our part in ensuring that healthcare professionals know about optimal treatments, ultimately supporting the well-being of patients.”
Sometimes a project can take an unexpected turn right in the middle, just when you least expect it. “In those situations, it’s important to stay calm and composed, and to adjust rapidly as the situation requires. Having experience and the chance to brainstorm with colleagues makes a big difference,” Tiia says.
Away from work, Tiia finds balance through CrossFit. Training and competing — especially in team or pair formats — gives her an outlet for her competitive edge and love of teamwork. “The best part of competing is when you’re able to push yourself beyond your limits,” she says.
Life at home is full of energy, too. With a preschooler and a toddler keeping things lively, quiet moments are rare but cherished. Family time often means escaping to their summer cottage in the archipelago or heading up north to Kainuu. “For me, the dearest place in the world is our cottage by the sea, with the sound of seagulls in the background,” Tiia says.
