Our Market Access team continues to grow stronger as we welcome Essi Honni as a Scientific Project Manager. With her combination of practical pharmacy experience and health economics, she will add valuable expertise to our projects.
Those who know Essi describe her as positive, reliable and easy to work with. She enjoys making sense of complexity and understanding how different pieces fit together. “I tend to approach tasks with a can-do mindset and like to get things done efficiently without compromising on quality,” she shares.

Essi is a qualified pharmacist from the University of Helsinki and has recently completed a Master of Health Sciences degree in Health Economics at the University of Eastern Finland. Before joining MedEngine, she spent several years working in a community pharmacy, including some years in a supervisory role. “That experience gave me a strong understanding of everyday healthcare, treatment practices, and how decisions affect patients in real life,” she reflects.
Her career path has evolved gradually, shaped in part by supportive mentors along the way. “I originally stumbled into pharmacy somewhat by accident,” she says with a smile. “Health economics came into the picture later when my former supervisor suggested it to me. She thought the field would suit my personality and analytical way of thinking.”
More recently, Essi gained experience within the pharmaceutical industry during a year-long traineeship at GSK. As part of the Market Access team, she contributed to reimbursement and pricing projects as well as health economic analyses, further strengthening her expertise in the field.
“ I enjoy working with clinical evidence and data and seeing how everything comes together in maket access, from the analyses to the strategy behind the decisions.”
What drew her to MedEngine was the opportunity to work at the intersection of science, health economics, and patient access. She is motivated by the process of turning clinical evidence and data into insights that genuinely support reimbursement and access decisions. “And having the office by the sea in Eteläranta is definitely a pleasant extra!” she laughs.
At MedEngine, Essi is looking forward to deepening her expertise in market access and health economics as well as gaining experience from different types of projects and learning from experienced collegues.
Essi lives in Helsinki with her partner. In recent years, she has discovered a passion for running: “I’m now preparing for my second marathon – something I never expected to do earlier in life,” she says excitedly. When she’s not training for the marathon, she enjoys going to the gym, watching films and spending time with family and friends.
