MedEngine welcomes Emmi Joensuu and Ona Saarnisalo

Our Medical Affairs and Marketing team is growing fast! Two of our latest acquisitions for Scientific Project Manager are Emmi Joensuu and Ona Saarnisalo.

Emmi holds a PhD in Medical and Clinical Genetics, and has several years of postdoctoral research experience in translational cancer biology and individualized drug therapy. Her interest in science began during childhood and eventually grew into a passion for oncology and a desire to reduce the massive global burden of cancer.

In her work, Emmi is eager to contribute to the intersecting fields of scientific data analysis, communication and digital marketing. She is determined to upgrade her skills, and is currently studying programming, software development and digital service design. She is particularly excited about the possibilities of big data.

”I have always enjoyed problem solving and getting to the core of things.”

Outside of the office, Emmi enjoys different sports and is passionate about aerial acrobatics. At home, she relaxes with her children by building robots, playing PlayStation or by parkouring around nearby neighborhoods.

Ona is a curious scientist fascinated by human diseases and biomedicine. She holds an MSc in physiology and neuroscience. During her studies, she dove into the mysteries of biomedical physiology and infectious microbes in the Universities of Helsinki and Glasgow. Before joining MedEngine, Ona researched the mechanisms of tooth development at the University of Helsinki Institute of Biotechnology.

Ona has a passion for modern ways of visualizing science, and audiovisual projects in particular spark her interest. Ona wants to communicate the fast flow of new scientific information from researchers to larger audiences, including healthcare professionals and the general public.

“My dream is to combine my strengths in bioscience and visual design to make complex scientific knowledge easy to absorb and engaging, both intellectually and visually.”

To keep life out of the ordinary, the extroverted Ona can often be found trying out new activities and sports or planning her next explorations out in the world. In her free time, she enjoys learning new skills like photography, dancing, and making art with various materials.
