MedEngine’s team is getting bigger (and better)

In addition to the recent news about our new office, we are now happy to announce that the MedEngine team has grown quite a bit during the autumn.

So without further ado, let’s meet the new MedEngine people!

Information is beautiful—at least if you ask Sauli Herrala, MedEngine’s new biostatistician—you just have to know how to dig up the beauty in it. Sauli comes from a mathematics and statistics background and has recently been working primarily with medical statistics. With his versatile programming language skills and his passion for data visualization, Sauli is your go-to guy for projects that require a bit more data wrangling than your typical studies.

MedEngine’s communications and marketing team has also gained new members. Anna Grönholm began her MedEngine career as a freelancer in February, but after finishing her PhD in immunology, she became a full member of the team as a scientific project manager. In addition to her biomedical training, Anna also minored in communication and marketing. She is eager to transform complex scientific information into something understandable and useful. “At MedEngine, I get to utilize all the skills and knowledge I have gathered so far,” she says, “but I also get to learn about cutting-edge topics every day – and that’s what I’m passionate about.”

Derek Ho joined MedEngine as a scientific writer in August. Derek received his doctoral degree in pathobiology from the University of Washington in the US and moved to Helsinki to study immune evasion by pathogenic bacteria. However, as much as he loves research, Derek enjoys communicating and writing about science even more. “I’m excited to work at MedEngine, since it allows me to combine two of my passions – communication and science,” he says. Besides his MedEngine job, Derek is currently a part-time researcher at the University of Helsinki, where his research is focused on biological therapies.

Last but definitely not least; Heini Kallio recently started working with us as a freelance scientific writer. Heini received her PhD in biomedicine in 2011 and is currently a post-doctoral researcher, working on identifying new biomarkers in prostate cancer. Besides science, however, Heini always had a thing for writing and minored in journalism and mass communication during her biochemistry studies. Similar to Derek, Heini is looking forward to combining her passions for writing and science at MedEngine.

We are proud to welcome all five new team members! In addition to being a bunch of great new colleagues, our new team members also bring a diverse range of skills and know-how. With our bigger (and better) team in place, we look forward to serving our customers even better than before.
