MedEngine Warmly Welcomes Sofie Damgaard

As the new year chimes in, we’re privileged to welcome new talent to our teams. First, let us introduce you to Sofie Damgaard, based in Copenhagen, and strengthening our teams in different business areas.

Sofie is an easy-going, happy, and curious person. She says she strives to enjoy life every single day. “I put a lot of value in small things in my everyday life, and my friends and family often tease me for getting overly excited about seemingly mundane things”, she laughs.

Sofie has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in public health from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. “I had the great opportunity to study a part of my master’s degree at The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia where I gained valuable insights into epidemiology, pharmacovigilance, and vaccine development.” Sofie completed her degree developing a prediction model for identifying patients with severe mental illness and no contact with general practitioners by utilizing Danish national health registry data and statistical analysis in Denmark.

I’ve worked with the Danish national health registries, which are renowned for their exceptional and complete health data.

Previously, Sofie has worked at the Novo Nordisk Foundation in Denmark. As a continuation she was asked to assist in the set-up of Childhood Health, a collaboration between the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Ministry of Health dedicated to promoting healthy weight and well-being among children. “Most recently I was employed at the University of Copenhagen. I worked on an intervention project aiming at improving the quality of life and mortality among patients suffering from severe mental illness in Denmark (SOFIA project). I worked with the Danish national health registries, which are renowned for their exceptional and complete health data. It was extremely rewarding to do such meaningful research, and I’m very proud to have contributed with findings that can guide the complex work of improving patients’ lives in the future”, Sofie recalls.

Their motivation and dedication to help others inspired me, and I always admired them for their work!”

Sofie has always been fascinated by the topic of health. “Growing up in a family with healthcare professionals—my parents are doctors—I was exposed to the medical field from a very early age. Their motivation and dedication to help others inspired me, and I always admired them for their work,” Sofie tells us. “In my family, we like to discuss and debate on various topics, and conversations on health have always been a frequent topic. I was curious to explore health from a wider perspective and understand the complexities of it. Therefore, I opted for public health where I could explore the nuances of health from a societal, biological, and economic perspective”, she elaborates.

Sofie says MedEngine aligns well with her academic foundation in merging medical science with business—and ultimately improving societal well-being. “My academic background has equipped me with the necessary skills to comprehend the complexities of the healthcare industry. Joining MedEngine has given me the opportunity to apply my scientific abilities and improve my communication skills in a clear and creative manner. I’m also excited to collaborate with colleagues from Finland and Sweden to broaden my knowledge of the Nordic perspective in the medical field,” she adds excitedly.

I’ve spent many vacations travelling around Europe in search of the best waves.

Sofie says she’s always been curious, constantly seeking out new hobbies and activities to explore her creative side. Cooking is a big passion of hers, and she loves spending hours in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes, especially Italian and Spanish cuisine. “When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a chef, and that passion has stayed with me ever since. In addition to cooking, I love using my hands to create things. Sewing and drawing are two activities that I find incredibly therapeutic and calming. I love the feeling of getting lost in my work and creating something beautiful from scratch”, she says and adds, “Music is also a significant part of my life. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music, from classical to rap and everything in between. I love discovering new sounds and styles and expanding my musical horizons. But one of my biggest personal passions nowadays is surfing. I’ve spent many vacations travelling around Europe in search of the best waves. It’s an activity that allows me to connect with nature and find peace within myself”, she says with serenity in her voice.

Inspiring! Great to have you on board, Sofie! Literally! A warm welcome. 🏄‍♀️
